The majority of the changes to the immigration rules (HC590), came into effect on 4 and 11 April 2024. These changes will have a significant impact on business and reduce the overall pool of foreign talent available to employers. The updated rules increase the minimum salary threshold required to sponsor under the Skilled Worker and Global Business Mobility visa routes. They also introduce the Immigration Salary List, which is a reduced version of the Shortage Occupation List and will rely on a revised version of the standard occupational codes in determining the going rate.

DLA Piper’s Immigration, Employment and Tax teams are hosting a webinar on Wednesday, 24 April to help you understand these changes. We will unpack how it could impact talent acquisition, raise potential issues of discrimination in the workforce, and impact your tax obligations. We will also explore how employers may be able to strategise in minimising the overall impact, consider recruitment costs and ensure talent retention.
